the wilderness
Not enough.
These two words are enough to send a chilling shiver down your spine.
Not good enough grades, not pretty enough, not sociable enough, not focussed enough.
I particularly envy people, who seem content with themselves. This enlightened bunch is not delusional enough to think that their farts smell like roses or the world will cater to their whims and fancies.
No, there is no bullshitting around them.
This brand of the species is extraordinarily comfortable in their strengths and weaknesses. They'll play on their strengths and carefully nurture any chinks in their armour.
They seek no approval or validation, in pale contrast, you'll find them silently working, with clear goalposts ahead.
In the heart of my heart, wait who am I kidding, even the uppermost chambers of my heart (I do not have to scrape the bottom for this), I know that I cannot and will not be this person.
It takes extraordinary efforts to rise above social politeness and shut out any superimposed notions.
To trim this down further, "It takes a lot to not care".
That being said, is this also true that this lot could be branded as eccentric?
Well, some of them, who are outlandishly, the social pariah kinds, could be called eccentric as per modern society's standards.
Since, its a big world, I am sure there are plenty of adults who are well-rounded, not horribly anti-social, laser-sharp focussed and have also risen above social inhibitions or standards.
This is also true that sometimes, and again this is exceptional, and not aligning with the "ordinary", that one's vocation is so absorbing, magical, out-of-this-realm kinds that any and all unwanted noises are sealed tightly.
You become so enamoured with what you do, that anything, besides this, is a mere irritant which is to be dispensed with immediately, so you could get back to your task at hand.
Do you think it's easy to be a Freddie Mercury, a Zuckerberg, a Kalam without an unflinching desire?
To bring this to a fulfilling conclusion, let's bring on some distilled arguments to think about.
Let's deal with them.
1. a group of people seem immune from any social pressure/inducement/standard/validation. They have risen above such mediocrity.
2. this bunch can be divided into two: one kind can be considered eccentric. Think Buddha, Napoleon, Socrates, The other are seemingly "normal", sociable. They are working hard silently. No famous examples here, think of known authors, social workers, scientists, journalists, even some of our own friends and acquaintances.
3. Another group, is fascinated with what they do. Any thing which does not concern their work, does not concern them at all. This is the vary rare kind.
Alright well, we are not passionate enough about any such thing, nor are we lone wingers who are content with themselves, alone and are not desirous of much approval or validation.
Well, we can aspire to take the middle path and take a leaf out of Buddha's book.
We socialise when we have to, we listen to others, when we want to, we dress ourselves nice, when we want to.
We do everything, when we want to.
In this way, we become the true driver of our energy, thoughts, ambitions.
This is quite a weighty write-up, but I feel ready to take my control, back, from some mythical, invisible beings, who we will label as the "wilderness".
Down with the wilderness.
